Facing Threat

The structural safety ad natural beauty of the hillock has been posing a serious threat for the last few years due to the devastating activities of a mining company functioning in the near vicinity of the temple and the pound.  The activity of the company is exposing china clay deposits remained underneath the hill after plundering the bowels of the rock with sophisticated machineries and even crushing down hill to the sea level portion by portion with high power explosives and exporting the mineral substance on commercial basis.  The tremors experienced to  the premising areas during the process of firing explosives may entail in causing damages to the temple structures and in toppling down the water sources available where in the middle of rocky layers from which the perennial supply of pure water is coming to the surface of Vadukunda lake.  The present mining activities are carries out only 70 to 100 meters away from the temple and pound in the southwest side of the hill.  The mining company has by hook or crook managed to obtain the license of mining china clay from the geological departments of Kerala even covering the very courtyard of the temple.  The director of mining and geology of the Govt of Kerala when giving the mining license in 1981 did not even care to examine the validity of documents of the properly belonging to the company and their possession right.  The mining company, which was once  private enterprising, is now a holding company under public sector  But the present management without feeling  any sense of responsibility to the people doing serious harm to the environment by creating water pollution, air pollution, ecological imbalance to the village and destruction of agricultural lands to a vast extend  by their devastating  mining process.   The people of the village and the temple worshippers, in particular, are tin the struggle path against the mischief of the company functioning in the name and style of "Kerala Clays and Ceramics Production Ltd (KCCP) both thy direct actions and litigations. The land on which the activity the mining activity is presently conducted was obtained by the company on lease by the then Trustee of "Madai Kavil Devasam" who is also the Senior Raja of Chirakkal in 1964 for dumping the Soil unearthed while mining in a separate near by land.  This leased land is an area where mining process is prohibited as per the conditions of lease document.  But the plan attached and got registered along with the document has been amended adopting clandestine methods by the Company and obtained mining license in the manipulated area covered by this fabricated plan through corrupt practices.  The present mining is thus carried out in violation of all norms and principles.  However the effort of the company with the support of Supremes in Govt. and political field for extensive mining in trigger areas causing more danger to the environment, the temple and its properties, water and air and structural safety of the temple pound stands hindered by the resistance of the people at large.  They are still continuing the struggle in different methods to stop the present mining of the company.
